Common Questions

Do I have to give money at church?

No. If you are visiting, you are our guest, and guests do not give. There is no plate passed down your row and no moment where you have to hand something to a person or explain why you did not.

This is one of the biggest reasons people avoid walking into a church, and the suspicion behind it is not unreasonable. Plenty of people have sat through a service where the money portion felt like the actual point.

Here is how it works at Hue.Church. There is a moment in the service where we talk about giving, because it is a real part of how a church operates and we would rather be direct about it than sneak it in. But nothing gets passed around. Nobody walks a plate down your row. If you want to give, there is a way to do it on your phone or online. If you do not, the morning proceeds exactly the same and no one knows either way.

For guests specifically, we mean it when we say do not give. You did not come to fund a building you have visited once. Giving here is something people grow into after they decide this is their church, not a cover charge at the door.

When Ps. Sam does teach on money, it tends to be less about the church budget and more about what money is doing to you. He has preached on generosity and on the grip that comparison and accumulation get on people, which lands differently in an area where compensation is a constant background conversation. Whether or not you ever give a dollar here, that teaching is meant to be useful to you.

So come with nothing. That is genuinely fine, and it will stay fine for as long as you want it to.
